1 Timothy 4:7-8, “Train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

Bethany began cycling in her senior year of college at Liberty University. Growing up, she was a competitive swimmer and was always active. By the end of college, Bethany’s course load was lightening, so she decided to join the cycling team. She competed in her first race two weeks before the world shut down for covid, and the rest is history!  As the pandemic wound down in 2021, Bethany was finally able to begin racing in earnest and gained valuable experience competing in regional road races while also entering into the world of track cycling.

In 2022, she won a collegiate national title in the individual time trial and an elite national title in the individual pursuit on the track. Despite dealing with long covid last year, Bethany began racing team pursuit with the national team and won a gold medal in the team pursuit at the Pan American Championships this year.  Bethany currently lives in Columbia, SC with her husband and is an adjunct engineering professor for Liberty University Online.

Off the bike, I am always inspired by my parents. They are wise, hard-working, and kind. Tell us something about yourself that people may not know

I was planning to pursue a PhD in mathematics, but when COVID hit, I decided to change course and chase a career in cycling instead. It was a pretty wild decision considering I had only competed in two collegiate C races at the time, but I’d say it worked out! That said, I’ll always be a nerd at heart. 😊I started cycling during my senior year at Liberty University. Growing up, I was a competitive swimmer and always stayed active, but by the time my college course load lightened, I decided to try something new and joined the cycling team. Two weeks after my first race, the world shut down for COVID—but once racing resumed in 2021, I dove in headfirst. I gained experience competing in regional road races and discovered track cycling, which quickly became a major focus for me.In 2022, I won a collegiate national title in the individual time trial and an elite national title in the individual pursuit on the track. Even though I dealt with long COVID last year, I started racing team pursuit with the U.S. national team and, this year, won gold at the Pan American Championships. Now, I live in Columbia, SC, with my husband and balance my racing career with my work as an adjunct engineering professor for Liberty University Online.
