Salt Lake Sizzle and Win!

CLLCTVE CRITERIUM

  1. Marlies Mejías Garcia (CUB) — UCI CTW Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28
  2. Skylar Schneider (USA) — L39ION
  3. Aline Seitz (SUI) — Higher Dose I Renova

Day two of the Salt Lake Criterium weekend brought a different challenge at the CLLCTVE Criterium, same four-corner style, but the course was reversed and featured a longer run into the finish.

The team was impressive from start to finish. After a day-one result that left us knowing there was more there, everyone came into Sunday with a clear job and took responsibility for executing it. Rylee, Sofia, Olivia and Kenna were a solid team. The communication was better, the positioning was sharper, and the group worked together with real purpose.

As the race came down to the final laps, the team stayed composed and committed to delivering Marlies into the right position. With the longer sprint to the line, timing and patience were critical and this time the execution was spot on. Marlies finished it off with the win, but this was very much a team victory. Every rider played a part, trusted the plan, and did her job when it mattered. A really satisfying way to close out two hot, fast days of racing in Salt Lake City.

"The team was really strong today. Everyone was committed and did their job when it mattered. They kept the race under control and and at the same time forced other teams to work. They communicated well and put me in a great position to sprint, a win we earned together!" - Marlies Mejias Garcia

MAYER BROWN CRITERIUM

  1. Aline Seitz (SUI) — Higher Dose I Renova
  2. Skylar Schneider (USA) — L39ION
  3. Marlies Mejías Garcia (CUB) — UCI CTW Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28

Saturday’s Mayer Brown Criterium brought plenty of heat and a great downtown Salt Lake City atmosphere. The short four-corner course was fast and technical, and coming into the weekend we were a little rusty as a group and not quite as connected as we needed to be.

Rylee, Kenna, Olivia and Sofia all worked hard to keep the race together and support Marlies, but the execution wasn’t quite as sharp as we wanted. Marlies slightly underestimated how important the final corner would be and entered the sprint a little farther back than ideal, but still powered to an excellent third place behind Aline Seitz and Skylar Schneider.

It wasn’t our best day, but a podium is still a podium and there was plenty to take from it. More importantly, the team recognized what needed to improve and turned it around beautifully on day two.
