The Amazon Armed Forces Cycling Classic is always a favorite weekend on the Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28 calendar. As a Virginia-based team, this race feels close to home and gives us the opportunity to proudly represent Virginia on a national stage. This year’s event was made even more meaningful through our second year partnership with Deloitte, whose commitment to supporting women through initiatives such as the Athena Pledge aligns strongly with our mission. Ahead of the racing, the team visited Deloitte’s headquarters for a ride, coffee chat, and Q&A a valuable opportunity to connect, share stories, and celebrate the role sport can play in opening doors.
The weekend opened with the Capitol Cup, raced against the backdrop of the nation’s capital, followed by the iconic Clarendon Cup in Arlington, Virginia. The energy, crowds, and setting make this event special every year. On the racing side, the team came just short of the top step with two second-place finishes, but secured the overall Omnium title through consistency, teamwork, and aggressive racing. We controlled the race both days and committed fully to the plan. While we are always striving for perfection and didn’t quite get the final execution right, the riders showed the strength, depth, and unity that define this program.
“Winning the Omnium is always special because it reflects the strength of the whole team across the entire weekend. Of course, finishing second both days leaves us hungry, as racers, we always want to win, but I am proud of how we raced together, controlled the race, and kept fighting until the end. The team was strong, committed, and united, and that is what made the overall victory possible.” - Marlies Mejías
