Anna Hicks Wins Individual Pursuit National Championship

Hicks sets a national record—and takes the title

We kicked off Day 2 with the Women’s Individual Pursuit, and the tone was set straight away—four riders under five minutes in 4km qualifying. Anna Hicks (Boulder, Colo.; UCI CTW: Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28) lit it up with a new national record of 4:39.350, topping the charts and punching her ticket to the gold ride.

In the final, Hicks stayed calm and clinical to stop the clock at 4:43.044 and claim the national title. Stephanie Lawrence (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Star Track) earned silver, while Reagen Pattishall (Breinigsville, Pa.; Turbo Velo Pickle Juice) outpaced Laurel Rathbun (Encinitas, Calif.; L39ION of Los Angeles) for bronze. Bonus kudos to Pattishall, who also pulled on the U23 Stars and Stripes jersey.

"The IP is my favorite event because it encompasses so much of the rawness and toughness that I love about sport. It is a race against yourself as much as it is a racing against your opponent. To win the IP is very exciting and inspires me to go even faster and see what I am capable of." - Anna Hicks
